Example of characterization by mapping properties: the product topology

چکیده
For example, the nature of the product topology on products of topological spaces is illuminated by this approach. One might have (at some point) wondered why the product topology is so coarse. That is, on infinite products the product topology is strictly coarser than the box topology. [1] The answer is that the question itself is misguided, since the product topology is what it has to be. That is, there is no genuine choice in the construction. This answer itself needs explanation.
